I've read about Definitive Technology speakers for years in audio magazines, both in advertisements and reviews. When I purchased a new receiver I decided to get a ProCinema 800 system to go along with it.
To say that I am absolutely blown away by these speakers is a gross understatement. They have some of the most "non speaker-like" sound I've ever experienced. Nothing sounds as if it's actually coming from the speaker; a truly amazing feat indeed. The small 8" subwoofer is exceptionally powerful, pumping out enormous amounts of bass when decoding Dolby TruHD or DTS-HD Master soundtracks from Blu-ray discs. The ProCinema 800s continue to impress me with each new listening experience.
I've waited for these speakers far too long, and they'll stay a part of my home system for many years to come. I congratulate your company for creating an affordable (and beautiful) system with such breathtaking sound.
You've succeeded in making me a Definitive Technology convert for life.
I
have owned my Def. Tech’s for over a year now and could not be
more pleased. A friend of mine who I work with was aprofessional
mandolin player in his younger days recommended Definitive
Technology speakers when I told him I was in the market
for a HDTV and surround sound system. To put things in
perspective, I’ve
been out of the audio game a long time while I put my
4 children through college. My
last set of speakers were Cerwin Vegas which I purchased
over 30 years ago. My friend took me to College HiFi here in Chattanooga,
TN to listen to the Definitive Technology sound systems.
The owner (D.B. Hall) was very knowledgeable and helpful
and I purchased a ProCinema 800 system after making
multiple trips and spending a few hours listening to
a number of different types of music. Quality
sound systems are very addictive and the urge to upgrade
is always there.
I
have since upgraded [to the ProCinema 1000 system]
and passed on my 800’s to my oldest son who lives in Nashville.
To say we are both thrilled with our systems would be
an understatement. After
upgrading, I went to a number of stores that sold mid
to higher end sound systems and equipment for a comparison
check. One
of the stores I visited was Tweeter (who has since closed
its stores in Tennessee) and their sales people were
so confident in their sound equipment (Focal, Martin
Logan, JBL and Polk) that they invited me to bring my
two front’s
and sub into the store and listen to all the speakers
side by side. The
2 people I was talking with at the time were not familiar
with the Definitive Technology speakers. To make a long
story short they were embarrassed by the quality of the
sound coming from my ProCinema 1000’s and
ProSub 1000 in comparison to any of their equipment which
I might add was twice as expensive. I do realize everyone’s
ear is different but the opportunity for the side by
side comparison was too great for me to pass up. I did
not hear anything that day that would have made me change
my mind or regretted my decision to go with Definitive
Technology. It was not until I listened to equipment that cost 3
times as much as mine did I hear anything that even reproduced
the quality of sound. As
I did at College HiFi I listened to a number of different
types of music ranging from rock, blues, country and
bluegrass along with a few movie sound tracks. My
ProCinema 1000’s
and ProSub 1000 for my ears and taste blew the competition
out of the water. You have a great product and have made
my son and I DefTech fans.
It was nearly fifteen years ago that I purchased
a complete Def Tech setup ... two BP8's,
a C1 center, BPX surrounds, and a Powerfield
15 Sub. I had heard
them in a Long island showroom, and although I had
little audiophile experience, I really liked what I
was hearing. I guess you don't have to be a seasoned
food critic to know you're eating at a fine restaurant.
After recently giving my beloved BP8's as a gift to
a friend, I bought two new setups,
one a complete ProCinema
1000 system,
the other a complete StudioMonitor 450
system, with a SuperCube III Sub. I am
just amazed at these speakers. Besides aesthetics,
which for their elegant simplicity I am always drawn
to, the lush, open, and immensely pleasing sounds that come out of
these things makes listening to music, movies, anything, just plain
fun. The subwoofer’s
power belie their diminutive size, and they are quite
musical and responsive. I have listened to 30.000 dollar
speakers, and they sound great. I would say without
hesitation, my Definitives sound better, in every way.
I never knew I could feel this way about a speaker,
or about a brand. But I've been on EBay, looking at wall plaques that
read "This home theatre is powered by Definitive Technology," and
I know I have to own one-it's getting scary. If you're
reading this, and you're new to this company, I would
urge you to give them a listen asap. Even better, compare
them to others, you will be amazed. And you will be
listening to, what I feel, are hands down the best
value in the A/V world. My thanks to Sandy Gross, and
Chet, for creating my favorite speakers, I'm indebted...
I recently bought a set of ProCinema
600 home theater
speakers/subwoofer and just finished watching the movie Blood Diamond. I
must commend you all for creating an incredibly well constructed system
at a fantastic value. Knowing that this is your lowest end speaker
system is even more impressive. I've owned a bunch of speakers over the
years including Boston Acoustics Mirage and Bose, and my ear is
reasonably attuned to knowing good sound when I hear it. It took a
couple of weeks to get the subwoofer tweaked just right for my ear — I
prefer a subtle subwoofer output. And I made a couple of other
adjustments to the loudness of the center channel and the satellites.
The quality is amazing especially the center channel. Dialog is crisp.
Congratulations Definitive for being so dedicated about creating quality
sound! I am a total convert. I can't imagine how good your higher end
systems must sound. Not sure I need to know...
F. Allen Maitland, FL
P.S. Blood Diamond is an excellent movie to show
off a good home theatre system.
Yep, never heard the music before I purchased these
mini monsters (ProCinema 1000) they pop loud and very,
very clean even at very low levels they still pop. I've been listening
to some of my old jazz, it's like a whole new experience; I can't
believe what I have been missing. I love 'em. I can now feel movies
Howard B.
"The guitars were 'in the room.'
Definitive speakers are just incredible to me."
Nearly 15 years ago, I went to the local high end audio store to
audition speakers for my first home theater system. I listened carefully,
switching between many different brands of speakers, and without question,
there was something special about the Definitives. I was drawn to the BP8's,
which created a truly lifelike soundstage-I closed my eyes, and I really experienced
what reviewers mean when they say it sounded like the band was in the room. I
had to have them, along with a C1 center, BPX
surrounds, and a PowerField 15 subwoofer.
In the interest of keeping my story short and sweet, I will
say this —15 years later, wife and child, I just came home
with a new ProCinema
800 system, which is set up in my bedroom along with StudioMonitor
450s, which are my home theater basement set up. I spent
several hours listening to jazz, acoustic, and R&B on the ProCinema 800
system, and as small as they are, the sound was huge, coherent.
The guitars were "in
the room."
Definitive speakers are just incredible to me. The engineering
and technology that go into them are clearly evident in
their utter musicality. I am so grateful to this company
for creating these speakers. They get me excited to listen
to music, movies, anything. As a top level hairdresser in Manhattan, I've
recommended them more times than I can count to clients and friends, and
those who have followed through on my advice, have been blown away at
their openness. I am a little obsessed with your product, I will admit,
and I'm fine with that!
Thank you again, and I look forward to future upgrades.
"If you're in the market for a sub/sat
package for your home theater, these are a must-listen."
After purchasing a new Sony Grand Wega XBR-800 50" LCD TV, I needed an audio system that could fully complete
my home theater system. As much as I love the sound of tower speakers, space and price concerns narrowed
my focus to smaller speakers. After much research and listening, Definitive Technology ProCinema
80 system became the obvious choice. In my educated opinion, this is the best sounding set of speakers for home theater
and music alike in their class. I have them powered by an Onkyo THX certified receiver and they rock. They
deliver a big, clean, high quality sound that makes me not in the least regretful that I didn't buy towers.
If you're in the market for a sub/sat package for your home theater, these are a must-listen.
PS — Def Tech's customer support is great. They are very friendly and
genuinely helpful.
"The clarity and overall sound is
astounding in this price range."
I bought the ProCinema 100 system about 3 years ago and am very pleased with it, even though the
neighbors on either side and below aren't. The clarity and overall sound is astounding in this price
range. I will be moving into a new house in February and am planning to buy new speakers to
replace these (the current setup will go into the new master bedroom!).
I have already bought the new receiver, a 7.1 channel 1050 watt STR-DA3000ES, and plan on
replacing the speakers with the following setup: 2 BP2002TLs; 1 C/L/R 2500; 2 BP2x or BP/X and
2 ProTower 400s.
I'm sure that I will be more than pleased with the new setup as I am still blown away occasionally with
the current one. Great job on making great speakers that most anyone can afford.
I had been searching for a center channel speaker back in 1999, when I stumbled across this high-end
audio-video store near Atlanta. I noticed this odd looking center speaker: the ProCenter
100! They
gave me a demo, and I asked myself, "where have you been all my life!"
I'd also discovered an artist by the name of Patrick O'Hearn! His music and my first experience with
Definitive Technology speakers is forever linked! I've always had this sort of hodge-podge
speaker setup and was really starting to think about going with tonally matched speakers in my setup
when I found a local dealer that carried the Definitive line of speakers. I noticed they carried
the ProMonitor 80s.
All of a sudden it hit like a ton of bricks, so I bought two pair of them. I've also ordered the
ProSub80. It's due to be delivered this Friday! (Sorry JBL!) Fantastic product, incredible
quality and value wish I'd known about sooner!
"It was an
unbelievable sensation to have this sort of sound
come out of these small speakers."
We purchased our ProCinema Speakers back in 1998 from a store in Sydney, Australia. We were living there
at the time. We could not enjoy the sound to it's full potential at the time as we were about to move
to Melbourne. Once we moved and settled into our abode, it was time to "crack" the boxes open and
set things up. We mated the speakers to a Sherwood AV Receiver which was DTS capable. Hooked up the
DVD player to the TV and Receiver (DVD also DTS capable).
It was an unbelievable sensation to have this sort of sound come out of these small speakers. Not many
people know about Definitive Technology speakers in Australia, I'm certainly doing my part in showing
the "class act" to as many friends and family as possible. Many people think I'm a little strange
when it comes to my home theatre setup. I say, some people just don't know what they are missing out on.
Thank you very much Definitive Technology, I love my speakers.
"My mom thought that a deer or car
hit the house."
This is my second story. I still love my Definitive speakers.
I have the ProTower 400s, a C/L/R 1000B for my center, an older 200-Watt PowerField 15 Subwoofer,
and a pair of Polk RT3s as my surrounds. My electronics consists of a Krell Showcase pre-amp,
a Bryston 4b amplifier for left and right speakers, and a Bryston 5b for center and surrounds.
Before I upgraded to the Krell I was using a Denon 3300 for my pre-amp. After I connected the
Bryston 4b to my left and right speakers I decided to give it a spin.
I put in the movie THE PATRIOT, and this is what happened: About 15-20 minutes into the film
there is a battle that happens in front of Mel Gibson's house. There was one cannon shot that was
so loud it literally shook my entire house. My mom thought that a deer or car hit the house.
That is a true story. Thank you for making such a great product.
My wife and I just had a new home theater wall unit built for our Panasonic HD TV. When we went
looking for speakers, we were expecting to buy either Polk Audio or Klipsch based on recommendations
from friends. When we got to the store, we told the salesman what we wanted to spend and without
hesitation he suggested the ProCinema 80s.
We took them home hooked them up to our old Sony receiver and could not believe the quality of
the sound. We stayed up until 2 am playing different CDs. We have since purchased a Yamaha 1200
receiver and with the better quality of the Yamaha the sound has actually gotten better.
We have had numerous friends and relatives come into the house and comment favorably about the
whole look of our new setup, then we put the music on and jaws drop. For a real thrill we play
one of our classical DVD-Audio discs on our Panasonic DVD-Audio player; run it through our
great Yamaha receiver. Everyone who has heard that combination has been amazed. At 50, I
finally have the great stereo speakers I have been searching for since high school.
"It's really unbelievable the great
sound quality they have!"
I bought a ProCinema 100 system consisting of 4 ProMonitor 100s, 1 ProCenter 100, and 1 ProSub
100 three years ago. It's really unbelievable the great sound quality they have!
The thing that really impresses me is that even at very low volume levels, you still feel
the quality of sound, which is clear and pure. I did not experience this with my old speaker system.
Your speakers also have a beautiful design, which is difficult to find on the market. It's
worth the price (even in Brazil where imported goods are extremely taxed by government).
Congratulations to all the Definitive Technology people!
"I have never heard a speaker system
as good as this, even at twice or three times the price!"
I have ProMonitor 100s as my front speakers and ProMonitor
80s as my rear speakers along with a ProSub100TL.
I drive them with the Sony 333ES receiver which is rated at 80 Watts per channel. I have never heard a
speaker system as good as this, even at twice or three times the price! They have to be heard to be
believed.
"I just bought and installed a ProCinema
80 system and it is FANTASTIC!"
I just bought and installed a ProCinema 80 system and it
is FANTASTIC! I was looking for a surround sound speaker system that delivered
a great sound but I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money. I initially
looked at a B— system, but the comparable system to what you offer was
several hundred dollars more. A couple of my friends who own competitive
systems couldn't believe the sound my system delivers. You have a very
satisfied customer and I would recommend your product to anyone.
"I wanted to write to tell you how
overly satisfied I am..."
I wanted to write to tell you how overly satisfied I am as an owner of your products. I own
the ProTowers and the ProCinemas. You make an extremely rigid, professional speaker, and I will
only be an owner of speakers made by Definitive. I want to thank you, and I strongly look forward
to the longevity and success of your company. Thanks again.
I've recently purchased a pair of ProTower 400s, I can
not believe the sound from such a small package. The great amount of R&D,
quality and workmanship has certainly paid off; I salute each and every
person at Definitive Technology for the hard work. The review in Sound
and Vision Magazine
really hits the target on these speakers. I've found a new
sense of listening pleasure from my old collection of CDs. I particularly
enjoy the ProTower's capabilities while watching a DVD; the bass will shake
the dishes upstairs — that's impressive. My next purchase will be the ProCenter
and ProMonitors to complete my destiny in total audio and video satisfaction.
Thanks.
"the response and sound field are
incredible for the price."
Wow! I waited 6 years to trade in my cobbled-together speaker setup. I happened to drop in and try
the ProCinema setup just before buying the current offering from Bose for $1300. What an impressive
system, and I saved money too! On the technical side, the response and sound field are incredible for the
price. They work very well in a less than perfect room setup because of their wide sound field.
My wife has even given in to go outfit the rest of the house with the in-wall gear... if I can only
sneak that new receiver by her. Heartiest recommendations to anyone serious about their audio...
they rock!
I was looking to improve our home theater and had always been looking at the Bose
Acoustimas System. Well, after reading recommendations on how to buy AV equipment
(specifically auditioning), I went to a specialty shop. Once there, the salesman had
both Bose & Definitive on display. I brought a range of music with me and begin
listening to both speakers. I couldn't believe my ears. The Definitive speakers were
amazing in their ability to reproduce the highs, midrange & lows. I bought a
pair of ProMonitor 100s for the front as well as the ProSub
100. I plan to buy the
ProMonitor 200s to replace the fronts and move the 100s to the rear. For what
it's worth (from a AV novice) they clearly are the top of the line in their price range.
I recently bought the ProCinema 100 system. It is unbelievable how clear and crisp the
speakers are, and the sub is out of this world. It rocks the whole house. I believe
unless I move in to a mansion, I will never have to buy speakers again. Keep it up
Definitive.
"Thanks for a great product at a reasonable
price."
I read the review on the ProCinema 100 series in Home Theater and
decided to give them a listen. I was truly amazed at the sound I heard
in my dealer's showroom and decided to bring them home to update the Cambridge
Soundworks speakers I've been using for Dolby 5.1.
When I brought the Definitives home and set them up, my wife, who was skeptical of my purchase,
was absolutely amazed at the sound those speakers pumped out, particularly the Powered Sub.
Thanks for a great product at a reasonable price.
"At this price range nothing even
comes close to this system's clarity and power."
I purchased your ProCinema 80 system on Sunday after 3
hours of comparing them to the Klipsch Quintet and Boston Acoustics 9000.
I have to say that at this price range nothing even comes close to this
system's clarity and power. After getting the system set up in my theater
room I was instantly awed — without even breaking these speakers in. I
can't believe that I asked the sales rep if I could return the system if
I was not happy with them when I got them home! These speakers will be a
part of my home theater for a long time to come.
"They met
my needs for small size and fit within my budget."
Although skeptical of what I was spending to set up a "beginner" home theater system (receiver upgrade,
DVD player and all new speakers), my whole family LOVES our ProCinema
100 speakers! They met my needs
for small size and fit within my budget but FAR exceeded the sound I expected to get. Keep up the
great work!
"No one can believe that such huge
sound comes from such compact speakers."
I own the ProCinema 100 system and it is perfect for my home theater system. It especially impresses people
when playing DVDs through my decoder which processes both Dolby Digital and DTS sound. No one can
believe that such huge sound comes from such compact speakers. Thank you for a superior product at an
affordable price.
"Even the wife, who could not care
less about audio equipment, says she can notice the difference."
After years of drooling over your products and bugging the
guys at my local audio shop, I finally convinced the wife to let me upgrade
my 10-year-old equipment. I purchased the ProCinema
100 system and absolutely
love it! Even the wife, who could not care less about audio equipment,
says she can notice the difference over the old stuff. The system is an
outstanding product and value. I'm sure you'll keep up the good work.
