“Lush, open, immensely pleasing sound”

It was nearly fifteen years ago that I purchased a complete Def Tech setup ... two BP8's, a C1 center, BPX surrounds, and a Powerfield 15 Sub. I had heard them in a Long island showroom, and although I had little audiophile experience, I really liked what I was hearing. I guess you don't have to be a seasoned food critic to know you're eating at a fine restaurant. After recently giving my beloved BP8's as a gift to a friend, I bought two new setups, one a complete ProCinema 1000 system, the other a complete StudioMonitor 450 system, with a SuperCube III Sub. I am just amazed at these speakers. Besides aesthetics, which for their elegant simplicity I am always drawn to, the lush, open, and immensely pleasing sounds that come out of these things makes listening to music, movies, anything, just plain fun. The subwoofer’s power belie their diminutive size, and they are quite musical and responsive. I have listened to 30.000 dollar speakers, and they sound great. I would say without hesitation, my Definitives sound better, in every way. I never knew I could feel this way about a speaker, or about a brand. But I've been on EBay, looking at wall plaques that read "This home theatre is powered by Definitive Technology," and I know I have to own one-it's getting scary. If you're reading this, and you're new to this company, I would urge you to give them a listen asap. Even better, compare them to others, you will be amazed. And you will be listening to, what I feel, are hands down the best value in the A/V world. My thanks to Sandy Gross, and Chet, for creating my favorite speakers, I'm indebted...

"Stunningly clear and accurate."

I can't say enough about the [StudioMonitors] SM450s I bought this last summer. They are stunningly clear and accurate. The stereo imaging is exactly what I was looking for in L/R mains. My only regret is that they are not bi/wire or bi/amp capable. I would gladly pay the extra cost of that feature, but they sound great as they are!!!

I also got the CLR 2300 for the center channel, a Super Cube I and a pair of BPX/2 speakers for the rears. All I can say is WOW!!! They all blend seamlessly together for a wonderful sonic experience. I use a nominal 7.1 receiver to power this group and hope to step-up to more powerful separates one day to hear the full potential of this system. Thanks for making a superb product.

Also, thanks to Chet for answering my many emails of inquiry and questions about Definitive Technology. He is most helpful.

"THESE ARE THE ONES!"

I have searched the planet for a speaker system that would deliver high quality sound throughout the entire audible spectrum. I have to say, the StudioMonitor 350s met my personal qualifications. At first I was only looking for a speaker that could produce a clean and crisp sound in the highs. With this in mind, I looked at many speakers. (Price wasn't an issue.) When I first heard the StudioMonitor 350s, I wasn't sure, but song after song, music type after music type, they won me over. I said to myself,
THESE ARE THE ONES!! Put them together with a solid 12" sub and you'll have the best 2.1 channel stereo music you will EVER hear. I'm now proud to say I will be a Definitive lover forever. As a Marylander, I cannot help but love that Definitive Technology is close to home!

THANKS DEFINITIVE TECH!

"I cannot believe the tremendously clean and purely sweet and exact sound that is produced by these speakers."

My friend and I have been dreaming about a good 5.1 surround sound system for a long time. The time came when we had a good chunk of money with which to go shopping. Magnolia Hi-Fi is where we began our tour of the Digital Surround Sound world. Of course, unfortunately, like most people, we were obviously on a budget. However, that didn't mean that we were going to get the cheapest system out there. Sacrifices had to be made, money had to be spent, and sweet sounding music and movies had to be accomplished. So, there we were, in the second theater room of Magnolia Hi-Fi gawking at all the wonderful speakers and Receivers and DVD players that they had to offer. Everything from MK, Martin Logan, Polk Audio, etc., had been on display in that room. To our dismay, they were all way too expensive for us at that time.

Sad but not discouraged, we discussed our dilemma with one of the Audio professionals and told him that we would most likely have to come back at another day when we had more money to spend. He then said, "Let me show you something before you leave!" with much excitement. He then began to tell us about the "New" speakers they just got in. "DefTech" he called them. My friend and I both looked at each other with one eyebrow raised.

The Audio guy went to grab his demo disc. When he returned, he showed us all the DefTech speakers that they had, explained how each one has a different role and then asked us to pick which ones that we wanted for the kind of sound we were looking for.

First was the center channel; we chose the ProCenter C2. Then for the front speakers, we went with the StudioMonitor 450s. After a bit of discussion, we chose the same for the surround speakers as well. Then on to the sub... the ProSub 80.

The next task was to choose a receiver that would decode everything that we wanted to listen to the best. With a bit of reading, research and comparing, we came up with the Denon AVR-1802 receiver.

To this day, even as I listen to music that I have listened to 100 times before, I cannot believe the tremendously clean and purely sweet and exact sound that is produced by these speakers. Every time I buy a new DVD-Audio disc, it is like Christmas all over again as I have the opportunity to hear sounds from this speaker system that I have never heard before.

I recommend to anyone that doesn't have $100,000 dollars to spend on a Sound System, or anyone who is looking for the best speaker/sound quality for the price, to take a look at Definitive Technology. These guys know how to build a speaker. Thanks, Definitive: you made my movies and music so much more fun to listen to.

"I couldn't believe you could get full-range speakers in such a small package."

Since I did not own computer speakers, I normally listened to music on my PC with headphones. Since I normally spend a large amount of time in the evening on the computer, I decided to purchase computer speakers. After looking at speaker systems specifically designed for computers, I came across your website and saw the StudioMonitor 350s. I couldn't believe you could get full-range speakers in such a small package but I decided to give them a try and ordered them. I also bought a 100-watt/channel Onkyo Integra receiver to go along with them.

They provided great sound from external CD players and a DVD. But apparently, the soundcard that came with my computer was not very good. So I upgraded my soundcard and I now have very good sound from the DVD and CD players on my PC as well as not bad sound from streaming audio from sites like spinner.com.

I would say that my Definitive-based system is almost as good as my living room system consisting of Spendor speakers and a Sunfire subwoofer. I get quite a bit of deep bass in my living room system, but that's a minor part of listening to acoustic jazz and classical music.

"I am so proud to own these speakers, I would recommend them to everyone."

I recently purchased a pair of StudioMonitor 450s. It is the best-sounding little speaker I have ever heard — 13" tall and 8-3/4" wide and 11-7/16" deep. It has a 10" subwoofer with 6.5" midrange and 1" aluminum dome tweeter. They sound rich and full. With their rich bass, you'll think a separate subwoofer is playing. The clarity of sound with any type of music is perfect. I am so proud to own these speakers, I would recommend them to everyone. PLEASE go listen to them before you purchase anything. Mine came from Mack and Daves in Huntington, West Virginia. Thanks.

"The StudioMonitor 450s are truly amazing."

I went from an original Pro Logic system with some oversized bookshelf speakers, no center, and small rears to a complete Dolby Digital/DTS Surround system, using BP30s as mains, StudioMonitor 450s as rears, and a C/L/R 1000B as a center. Wow! What a difference! The dynamics of this system (no subwoofer anywhere) are unbelievable, and the sense of space provided is amazing. I can't say enough good things about the BP30s. They have a deep, three-dimensional soundstage, rather than the 2-D stage my other mains had, and the low frequency effects blend seamlessly, as the bass all comes from the main speakers, perfectly in phase, and seamless with the rest of the system.

The StudioMonitor 450s are truly amazing, as well, filling my space with a convincing, detailed ambience with amazing detail retrieval and great dynamic range (this speaker is the single best value in the industry!). The center channel ties the dialogue and action to the rest of the system with great acumen, and balances nicely with the rest of the system.

Kudos, Definitive, and thanks!
