Legendary SuperCube Performance: Updated, and Improved
Huge Bass from a Tiny Enclosure
If you want all the high impact bass excitement of the finest home theater audio systems without consuming a large amount of floor-space, and if you want the latest features and wireless connectivity, then this is the subwoofer for you. The SuperCube® 6000 (along with the SuperCube 4000) is the newest model in the famed SuperCube Series and incorporates the latest digital technologies for bass performance that will leave you slack-jawed in amazement and delight. Definitive's engineers redesigned every part for maximum performance and added convenience and connectivity features that make them easy to use, versatile and perfectly tailored to your system and room for heart-pounding bass that will not fail to astound your friends and neighbors.
Music Lovers Rejoice
Subwoofer manufacturers are always talking about how "explosive" their subwoofers are (frankly so do we), but there's more to home entertainment than rocket blasts and explosions—there is also music, be it in the movies you watch or the CDs you enjoy. And for music the quality of a subwoofer's performance is way more important than the quantity. The bass should be "tight," precise, and musical. Bass notes should have pitch, not just a dull thud or drone. Definitive Technology was started by and is run today by music fanatics and the very first thing we do to evaluate a subwoofer prototype design is to listen to music. If a subwoofer doesn't do an exemplary job with music reproduction, it's not a Definitive.
Features in the Service of Superior Performance
The most obvious departures from previous SuperCube models are the addition of a digital display (cleverly hidden under the grille cloth) and a wireless remote. They're much more than an aid for chronic couch potatoes; they're serious performance optimizing tools for perfectly blending the subwoofer to your system and room and correcting for differences in program material.
In an ideal audio system the subwoofer works "invisibly," simply adding deep, loud bass without calling attention to itself—blending seamlessly with the main speakers. The key to seamless main speaker/sub blending is finding the perfect crossover frequency, equalization and phase settings for your system and room. And the best place to make those "set and forget" adjustments is from your listening chair via a wireless remote. For everyday use the remote makes it easy to set just the right amount of bass output to compensate for program material differences. As you make settings adjustments, the hidden display lights up to indicate the setting value and then turns off a few seconds later. You'll get exactly the bass performance you want – effortlessly at the touch of a button.
Digital Tracking Amplifier for Clean High Output
The SC6000 features a designed-from-the-ground-up brawny Class HD digital tracking amplifier that is optimized for real world power demands to deliver low distortion and high output. As well as producing high continuous power to cleanly reproduce sustained bass, this all-new Definitive amp has a high crest factor to deliver considerably higher power during short, transient peaks such as bass drum kicks and on-screen artillery blasts. You'll enjoy high volume, high impact, and low distortion bass from your favorite action/adventure films and TV shows without sacrificing the smooth response and quick precision needed for music.
As well as being powerful, the new Definitive amps are environment-friendly. The amplifiers go into idle mode less than 30 minutes after the cessation of signal and draws a mere half Watt or less of current, meeting international standards for low energy consumption.
Computers in the Subwoofer Exert Precise Control
The SuperCube 6000 has an integrated 56 bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP)–in essence a mini computer–that extends and improves the bass response. Multi-band digital protection systems tightly monitor and control the woofer system to prevent distortion and woofer damage at ultra-high volume levels with a minimum of audible artifacts. In contrast to simpler one-band compression/limiting circuits used in competing subwoofer amp designs, the Definitive subs feature a Multiband Dynamic Range Optimizer (M-DRO) that divides the frequency range into multiple bands. If the DSP detects an overdrive condition in the upper bass range, it applies just the right amount of compression and to prevent distortion to just that range without compressing the low bass, thereby vastly reducing the audible compression artifacts. The bottom line is that SuperCube bass is always tight, highly detailed and distortion free.
Rock Solid Cabinets Ensure Pure Low Distortion Response
The cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Resonance and vibration can add unwanted distortion as well as drain away important acoustical energy from the system. Definitive's subwoofer enclosures have been specifically engineered to be totally inert and vibration free, to ensure you of absolutely pure sonic reproduction. The front and rear panels are nearly 2-inches thick and the cabinet incorporates multiple internal braces to ensure total solidity. To top off the extraordinary performance, the SuperCube 6000 is finished in gorgeous piano-gloss black.
High-Definition Subwoofer Drivers Deliver Superior Detail and Lightning-Fast Transient Response
The powerful, high-definition drivers used in the new SuperCubes were specifically engineered for their task: to deliver rock-solid low distortion bass, reaching down to the lowest frequencies, with an outstanding quality of superior transient response ("tightness"). The special ultra-stiff cones are joined to specially formulated surrounds and long-throw voice coils and spiders. The incredibly rigid cast Aluminum baskets are engineered to hold the massive magnet structures and large voice coils in absolute alignment. The high temperature voice coils are made of aluminum wound with triple insulated ultra-pure copper wire and baked in epoxy for superior power handling and reliability.
The SuperCube 6000 features a new 9-inch (23cm) subwoofer driver pressure coupled to two 8-inch (25cm) Ultra Low Bass Radiators. The total piston area is greater than a 14-inch diameter woofer but with far greater speed, musicality and control than a single large diameter woofer could ever deliver—and it all fits in an impossibly tiny enclosure that is easy to tuck away out of sight. The SuperCube 6000 can fill the largest domestic spaces with loud, visceral, extended and musical bass yet it occupies just over a square foot of floor space!

"a grand slam"
I bought this sub about a month ago so now
I'm ready to submit my review. I have to say that this sub is awsome.I have it hooked up with bt 2006 tls.clr 2300 and nht 1.5 for rear.I'm using marantz thx ultra 2 5 chanel power amp.the bass this sub puts out is unbeleveable very clean and crisp on movies and music. I like being able to adjust the output from my seat with the remote control. I would recomend this sub to anyone that is looking for good clean bass reproduction.Worth every penny you have to pay!!!! Way to go Def. Tech. you hit a grand slam with this sub.
I recently picked up my SuperCube 6000 and the wireless system and realized that I could continue to use the Electronic Control Module that came with my Infinity Modulus System; the subwoofer itself had died, but the ECM is still operational, and it does provide a high-pass capability that I am continuing to use. So, I just disconnected the Infinity sub from the ECM. Then, I hooked up the SC6000 to the second preamp out on my NAD C356BEE amplifier, which I am using as a preamp with my McIntosh MC2120 power amplifier (120 wpc). Set up of the SC6000 was simple, although I thought I had a problem for a moment. After hooking it up and listening a few songs, I filled out the online registration form. When I got to the registration for the wireless module, I turned the system off and removed the wireless receiver from the sub to look for a serial number. When I hooked it back up and turned on the power, I had no deep bass. Then I went back to the instructions and found the bit about linking the receiver and the transmitter, did that, and all was well again. Since then, I have been listening to Beethoven, Bruch, Saint Saens (Organ Symphony) Wagner, Glenn Miller Orchestra (digital recording of the 1990s), Moody Blues, Katherine Jenkins, and a wide range of other composers and performers. There is a significant improvement in the sound of the system that goes beyond just an improvement in the quality of bass reproduction. Quite simply, I am astounded by the sound. The Infinity Modulus satellites have a ribbon tweeter (EMIT K) that is exceptionally clean and "open." I have the crossover set at 80hz on both the SC6000 and the Infinity ECM. The integration between the sats and the sub is wonderful, and I am pleased that the SC6000 provides solid and tight base when it is called for in the content and, obviously, none when it is not called for. The bass produced by musical instruments such as a bass viol, the low brass, drums, and organs is "substantive," tight, and clean. I have particularly noted the tightness of the bass, which seems to be a significant improvement over the already good bass previously provided by the servo-controlled woofer of the Infinity Modulus Subwoofer: attacks are clean and crisp. It also is great to have the degree of control over the sub that the SC6000 provides. On a side note, we recently had the house resided with insulated siding, and my wife says that when I have the volume turned up "moderately" high, it still cannot be heard outside, but the night mode on the SC6000 will still be helpful. Bottom Line: I am an extremely pleased customer who will tell all my friends about Definitive Technology subwoofers. The SC6000 seems to have brought new life to my audio system with its 20+ year old--but superb--bookshelf speakers.
